This little Facebook post popped up on my memories the other day. It was written years ago. I thought it was neat to look back on it and see what still holds true. Here's a version of "get to know your photographer" - Current comments in red.
1. I remember my dreams almost every night. They are very vivid and usually include me forgetting something such as a class schedule or dance choreography. I also dream often that I can fly. 65% of my dreams are scary to me. When I'm lucky I get to visit with my loved ones who have passed or places/times in my life that I miss. Same and I've added loved ones to my dreams who are now in heaven since this last post. I also spent the last 2 weekends at high school dance competitions and Sunday night I dreamed that I was in a routine, didn't know the choreography and had to lift someone, but didn't think I could do it. I woke up exhausted.
2. I have gotten the flu every time I have gotten the flu shot. Change this to Covid. I got Covid after I got the vaccine. And now I've also had the flu for the first time in 18 years which was the last time I got the vaccine or the flu. :(
3. I went to college off and on for a span of 9.5 years before finally graduating with a bachelor's in business technology. I walked in the grad ceremony when I was 9 months pregnant. No change there, however, I did decide to go back to the classroom earlier this year to earn my real estate license. I passed both the national and state exams in October. :)
4. I love okra any way you can cook it but if I had to choose I'd go with fried okra from leaders. SAME!!! Might have to go get some today!
5. I am a homebody. I would rather be inside than outside. I enjoy alone time but it's a rare occasion. SAME!!! Although I have more time to myself now that my kids are teenagers. They don't want to hang with me as much. ha!
6. I am not a reader. I can count the books I've read on one hand, and I barely remember the content of those that I haven't seen the movie. SAME!!! But I am loving my little devotional type of book that my bestie gave me. It's titled: You Got This!
7. I want to make a difference and wonder what my legacy will be....but I lack confidence. SAME!!! No change here.
8. I've always had a nickname. People rarely call me Jacé. SAME!!!
9. Sometimes I think about going back to a regular job. I miss having coworkers. So, here's the thing. I actually did this. Went back to working in an office for 3.5 years. Made some awesome new friendships and connections that I am so thankful for. However, while I was working, I missed all my babies and people that I meet while doing photography! So here I am.
10. I HAVE to put the shopping cart in the dedicated shopping cart return when I'm finished with it. Still do!!!
11. I'm always late or rushing in order not to be late........I unfortunately inherited that from my mom. Still am.
13. I wanted to be left-handed when I was younger, so I constantly tried to write with my left hand but just couldn't pull it off.
14. I believe in ghosts and have come in contact with a few before.
15. I can never sit still when entertaining at my house..........I'm always picking up something or making something or doing something. Still so me.
16. I love to buy things, get them home.....decide I don't need them and then return them. I'm getting better at this.
17. I am a real girly girl, but I'm not high maintenance by any means. I don't get my nails done, I don't care where my shoes or purses come from, I love buying things on sale......but secretly I wish I had good fashion sense. Still me, but I can't get away from Marshall's and TJ Maxx. Love those places.
18. I still have clothes in my closet from high school (I don't wear them, just still have them). LOL This is true, but I actually wore a dress from 1991-92 on a 90s bachelorette party for my cousin a couple years ago. My mom also wore my favorite 90s peace symbol shirt that I had packed away. Everyone else was trying to piece together something.........I was like, "no I got it!" lol
Reading back the original post I saw a comment from a former schoolmate/friend and client and it made my heart smile. She said: As far as number 7..I am a psychologist and have had those thoughts...especially when helping people and being afraid I can't help them. What I find is if you make a place for people to really unconditionally be themselves it makes a huge difference. I have seen you do this with my own daughter. You have a huge heart...that's a great legacy.
Wow, I appreciate that.
If you are looking for added inspiration, I recommend getting your hands on the little book below.
xoxo,
JB
